Streets Alive Programs

Streets Alive Mission has 13 key programs that provide for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the poor and disenfranchised in Lethbridge. Find out more about each program by selecting a link below.

A precedent-setting program offering individuals the opportunity to have someone steward their finances in an effort to improve their financial stability and accountability. We have seen a 50% increase in the growth of this program in the last year alone.

Trustees help individuals to be able to budget their funds and provide a way to keep that money safe when it’s not needed immediately. These are life skills that are vital to recovering a life of hope.

The Trusteeship Program serves a growing number of people, and in 2015 these individuals were able to put away a total of approximately $34,000 in savings, many of them for the first time in their lives.

In 2015, there were almost 6,000 trustee visits over the course of the year. Streets Alive Mission staff spend a few minutes (up to an hour) at a time with each individual, to touch base and discuss their financial needs.  That’s what we call an investment!

Note: Your donations to this program do not go to the individual in the program; rather the funds collected here will be used for staffing requirements in order to continue to serve the growing number of people in need of Trustees.

Shawna takes care of the Trusteeship Program. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to give her a call or drop a note by email.

A feeding program that provides sandwiches, coffee and food supplements to individuals on the streets and living in the downtown hotels and rooming houses. This has operated for 12 years and is completely run by volunteers called to support the Mission.

Takin’ IT to the Streets is a “Hands on” feeding and harm-reduction program that runs six nights a week. Sandwiches, coffee, donuts, and other food are brought into the single room accommodations, as well as to the street population directly.

It has been said:

“People need to know that you care, before they care about what you know.”

At-risk people feel that “regular” society thinks they are in their current circumstances by choice and of their own free will. The reality is no one really chooses this life, most people find themselves in it from circumstances they had no control over, with no hope of getting out.

Takin’ It To The Streets dedicated, caring volunteers provide a non-judgmental environment which will lead to trust, and trust leads to the ability to offer real help and accountability. Every effort is made to reduce the scorn and increase the kindness and let them know that no matter what, Jesus loves them.

Many people have only about $30.00 of expendable income after paying their rent per month, so we go into the single room accommodations with sandwiches, granola bars, and noodle soups to help supplement their daily food.

Loneliness is just as prevalent as hunger. For many of the people, the Takin’ It unit volunteers are quite often the only people they will see all day, or even at all.

Takin’ It to the Streets operates every evening Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9pm. The volunteers meet the people where they are at. In the single room accommodations the team goes right to the individual doors.

The success of this program is in the dedication, consistency and relationship. The people know the unit and volunteers will be there no matter what, because relationships and trust have been established.

If you are interested in joining one of our nightly teams of dedicated volunteers please email Shawna at shawna@streetsalive.ca or download our Volunteer Application, fill it out, and bring it by our office.

People In Need

Dedicated to building relationships by providing clothing, household goods, bedding and emergency food.

The P.I.N. (People In Need) Bank was started because there was a need to offer access to clothing, food, and household goods to people that other agencies struggles to service and without charging them for the items.

Over the last year, we saw an increase of 29% in the number of clients, bringing the total number of program clients to 1,005.

People living on the street have no place to keep a second set of clothes or a place to do laundry. The P.I.N. Bank acts as a closet for these people. The result is that once a week (more often in bad weather) they are able to come and get clean clothes in exchange for the clothes they are wearing. Those clothes are laundered and re-enter the bank.

The warm clothing, clean under wear, dry socks all work together to bring dignity when all seem lost.

Food hampers are made available to those who have access to no other services. They are an emergency measure only.

The P.I.N. Bank is the work horse of the Mission. Acting as the closet for the street population it provides, free of charge, the things that people require for basic survival, employment or setting up a new household.

Donations of clothing, household goods and food stuffs are greatly appreciated.

We gratefully accept donations at our office. 323 – 4th St South, Lethbridge. M-F 9:30am to Noon, and 1pm to 4:30pm.

If those donation times don’t work for you, phone our office and we can arrange another drop-off time. (403)320-1159

Epidemyc Youth Program

A weekly outreach program for youth that helps them cope with their ever changing life. We provide peer guidance, spiritual training and a place to belong.

Epidemyc is a youth group, striving to bring youth into a personal and fulfilling relationship with Christ, to help adolescents grow into the adults God is calling them to be.

There is a core leadership of adults and graduated youth, who lead small groups. Each week offers a time of worship, teaching and one-on-one time with leadership. We are committed to bringing the gospel, truthfully and accurately each week, because when we let God invade every aspect of our lives, our lives change.

Epidemyc runs from 7:00-9:00 on Thursday evenings at Streets Alive.

Youth Camp is in August each summer. This year (2014) we are going to Island Lake Retreat Center to spend 5 days learning about Jesus.   We typically go to two youth conferences a year, and these conferences are filled with teaching and amazing music.   For more information contact Heidi at 403-382-9908. Here’s a video from Camp 2013 – it was a fantastic time!

Some photos of Epidemyc and our crazy fun!
